They form stable rectangular landing areas without gaps. If the landing areas are constructed from individual modules then positive linkage is used. The use of a spike proof wear sheet or non spike proof cover will provide further assurance that an athlete’s foot is not able to penetrate between two adjacent sections. A landing area of sufficient size and depth allows for safe use by all participants, irrespective of jumping style. Guidance on mats and their use may be obtained from the relevant Local Authority or the British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education (BAALPE), www.baalpe.org.Flame retardancyFor sports matting used in the UK certain minimum levels of flame retardancy and the required test methodology will be detailed in BS 1892-3, which is in preparation.Cross-referencesThe British Standards which implement international or European publications referred to in this document may be found in the BSI Standards Catalogue under the section entitled “International Standards Correspondence Index”, or by using the “Find” facility of the BSI Standards Electronic Catalogue.A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract.
